B&B Pirri

This B&B with air conditioning is a juwel in a marvellous Baroque palace in the very centre of Noto, near to the famous Via Nicolaci where in spring they lay out the beautiful “L’Infiorata” in front of the Palazzo Nicolaci. Everywhere surrounded by buildings in Baroque style you will feel the atmosphere of the times of “Il Gattopardo”. Noto has been listed by the UNESCO as a world inheritance, for this reason everything was wonderfully restaured. Originally Noto was situated more to the North West, but after the earthquake of 1693 it was rebuilt on the actual place. Typical for the late Baroque buildings is the honey colour of the stones, which gives a special glow.
Prices on request.

A big inspiration before going to Sicily is the book “Il Gattopardo” of G. Tomasi di Lampedusa, but also the realization of the fact that the Isle of Sicily is rich of many cultures because of the occupation by a lot of other countries through the centuries, it is therefore that the Sicilian people have an innate civilization which is a rich mixture of those. One of the most interesting and beautiful regions of Sicily is the “Triangle of Baroque” in the South East, all around the city of Noto.

Noto (prov. Siracusa) is one of the most important cities of Baroque in Italy. Together with other places in the Val di Noto it has been listed by the UNESCO as a world inheritance (they realy seem to have fallen in love with this area), for this reason everything was wonderfully restaured. Originally Noto was situated more to the North West (Noto Antica), but after the earthquake of 1693 it was rebuilt on the actual place. Typical for the late Baroque buildings is the honey colour of the stones, which gives a special glow.

The history of the Sicilian nobility is found in wonderful Palazzi: such as Il Castello di Donnafugata (15km from Ragusa) and Il Palazzo Nicolaci with the lovely Baroque balconies in Noto. Below the last one in the street of the same name will be exposed in May the famous L’Infiorata di Noto: right in front of it there is La Cantina Modica di San Giovanni for the most delicious lunch and/or dinner, the museum and of course to taste the exquisite wines and olive oil from their estate Tenuta Bufalefi in Pachino.

Bufalefi (an Arabian name), a more than two centuries old estate of the Famiglia Modica di San Giovanni (close family of the Nicolaci’s); today it is under the management of the 8th generation. Here the bond between family and estate is much more than an economic one; here the political history of this part of Sicily close to Africa is found with also deep European cultural roots. Here in the heart of the D.O.C. Eloro and the D.O.P. Monti Iblei the Modica family produces the wine Il Nero d’Avola and the Olio extravergine d’oliva, and for the family it is a principal matter to unite old traditions with our modern times.

Further on highly recommendable to visit in this part of Sicily: the city of Siracusa, but most of all the juwels of Baroque cities Ibla and Ragusa. The overwhelming beauty of the landscape, the lovely flora, the great food and the blue sea make the dream of Sicily complete.
